Take for instance early 2000’s Jaguar S-type’s and X-types, you may think you’re getting a steal because you can pick one up for under $4,000.  A con to meet the pro of the price is: the money you will spend on repairs.  There is a saying about Jaguars, you need two, one to drive while the other is in the repair shop (or Humble auto repair shop I might add).  Not only are repairs needed regularly but they are also very expensive due to Jaguar being a foreign manufacturer.  These types of cars are notorious for having transmission problems and long-term SEVERE engine problems.  Sure we know you absolutely love the walnut trim, the all tan leather interior and the back up sensors but trust us it’s really not worth it.. and yes even at Whitty’z Humble Auto Repair Shop it might not be as inexpensive as our other services.

Reliable Cars

• Jeep Wrangler is the ultimate 4X4 SUV it is has timeless looks and is one of the coolest vehicles on the road. The X trim is on the lower end, but to find any Wrangler under $10,000 will mean either lots and lots of miles, dents, scratches and rust, or base trims. The 2003 Jeep Wrangler is from the TJ generation which is known for their rounded headlights made famous by the original Willys CJ dating back to the 1940′s. The TJ generation of Jeeps were built from 1997 to 2006 and their 4.0 V6 engines are known for rock solid reliability, but not having the best gas mileage. Then again, no one buys a Wrangler for gas mileage.
• The 3 Series BMW is a great luxury car that is affordable.  The 2004 325i is the base rear wheel drive 3 Series while the 325xi is the higher-end, all wheel drive version. The design language on a used 2004 325i is from the E46 generation which is the best reviewed 3 Series design. The E46 generation ran from 1998 until 2006 and it is already considered a classic by car enthusiasts because it offers the driving dynamics that are unmatched in the luxury compact category. It should also be pointed out a newer 3 Series with fewer miles will cost less than a Jeep Wrangler.
• Volkswagen’s Jetta is Volkswagen’s take on a compact car. It is one of the most popular compact cars because it is considered to be a spicier option when compared to the Corolla or Civic. A used 2006 Jetta is from the model’s fifth generation, the sixth-gen Jetta was launched in 2011. Despite being nearly ten years old, the fifth-gen Jetta’s rounded design is considered better than the newer more sedate-looking sixth-gen Jetta. In an effort to cut costs, the sixth-gen Jetta removed sound dampeners and other refinements to help lower the asking price so shoppers will find the fifth-gen Jetta to be more luxurious.  Couple its adorable shape and luxury appointments with a “Top Safety Pick” rating, a 2005 to 2010 Jetta under $10,000 is a wise choice.
• The Honda Civic is one of the best-selling compact cars in the United States and the car doesn’t depreciate. OK, actually, the car will depreciate, but try this on for size, a used Civic will hold 50% of value after five years. That’s why a Civic which can cost over $16,000 new and doesn’t drop below $10,000 unless it has lots of miles or it doesn’t have a clean history report.  The 2007 Honda Civic is the vehicle’s eighth-generation which was built from 2006 to 2011 and its design language still looks contemporary even in 2014. The car boasts about 29 MPG combined so even if you spend a little more than you want on a Civic, at least you won’t be spending more at the pump.
• The Nissan Altima 2.5 S is the lower mid-level trim on the Nissan Altima. Base trim was the 2.5 and higher trims were the 3.5 SE and 3.5 SL which were equipped with a V6 engine. The more fuel-efficient 2.5 four cylinder on the Altima achieved 26 MPG combined.  A used Altima doesn’t hold its value as well as the Civic and that’s why it can be found with a smaller price tag. A 2007 Altima is from its fourth generation which was built from 2007 to 2012 and has the most updated styling on this list of the best used cars under ten grand. It was highly favored by critics for its interior space and is only an inch shorter than its predecessor which was the largest Altima ever built.
